McIlroy pips Rose to win Masters and grand-slam

Sunday's climax of the US Masters brought 7.5m viewers in the UK and the late evening finish did not disappoint as Rory McIlroy beat Justin Rose in a one-hole sudden death play-off.
Rose set off earlier than McIlroy and posted 10 birdies in the his final round to be the clubhouse leader as the final pairings completed the final holes. McIlroy started with a double-bogey on the first and he extended his lead until dropping a chip into the water at the 13th for another double-bogey.
On the final green he sent a putt to win wide of the hole, before sinking his third stroke on the final hole in the play-off to beat Rose by one shot and win his first green jacket. The enormity of also becoming only the sixth player to win a personal grand-slam was evident when he was presented with his green jacket by last year's champion Scottie Scheffler.
Both Rose and McIlroy can rightly be proud of the golf they played and the manner in which they carried themselves throughout the tournament, particularly on the final green.
It's five weeks until the PGA Championship on the 15 May in South Carolina: who would bet against both Rose and McIlroy staying in form and contesting to the end.
